US special representative meets high-ups

ISLAMABAD: United States Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Ambassador James Dobbins came to Pakistan in his two days visit and held meetings with Pakistani leadership to discuss the regional situation especially the peace and security issues.
He was accompanied by Lt Gen(r) Doug Lute, US President Special Assistant, and Charge d’ Affairs of US Embassy Ambassador Richard Hoagland.
According to American Embassy, Ambassador Dobbins met Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani, Chief of Army Staff Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and President of Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) Nawaz Sharif. Ambassador Dobbins also telephoned President Asif Ali Zardari who was in Karachi.
The ambassador offered congratulations to the people of Pakistan on the historic May 11 elections and underscored the US commitment working with the next democratically-elected government to build a strong, mutually beneficial bilateral relationship.
During his engagements, Dobbins and his interlocutors discussed a range of bilateral and regional issues, including advancing shared counter terrorism objectives, increasing economic opportunity, strengthening civilian democracy and civil society, and supporting an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led reconciliation process.
The foreign secretary also briefed the new US SRAP about the steps taken by Pakistan for peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan. app
