Balochistan govt initiates task force to protect polio workers

QUETTA – The Balochistan government has initiated a setup task force in order to process polio immunisation in the Afghan refugee camps.

Provincial Coordinator of Polio Emergency Operation Centre Dr Saifur Rehman said that there are approximately 12 Afghan refugee camps situated in the province with a target population of 57,808 children.

The task force will be responsible for leading team training, supervising, monitoring and validating the assessment of the camps for coverage and refusal of polio vaccination, he said. He said that more than 100,000 children have been vaccinated collectively in the past 3 months.

While talking to Radio Pakistan, he said that due to constant movement at the Afghan border, children on both sides are at a higher risk of being infected with polio.
