Confusion over administrative system for Sindh
KARACHI: Confusion persists over the issue of whether a District Coordination Officer (DCO) or Commissioner will run the administrative system in Sindh as PPP and MQM leaders preferred not to say anything in clear terms on the matter during a news conference held on Saturday, Geo News reported.
MQM leader Dr. Sagheer Ahmed said for the time being the existing Local Government (LG) system would remain in place while PPP leader Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq said: "The law and constitution would guide all actions in the province."
Pir Mazhar, however, failed to answer whether there would be a Commissionerate of Local Government system in the province.
During the joint news conference held at the Chief Minister house, Dr. Sagheer said MQM would not put forth any such condition that might allow anti-democratic forces to take an advantage of. "We have consented to the decision of temporary restoration of Commissionerate system in the province."
Haq added that the decision on the administrative system for the province would be made after Eid.
Dr. Sagheer said: “We are working to plug the legal gap that the province is faced with.”
Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah who addressed the news conference via telephone said the government would not disappoint the people of Sindh and the issue of the Commissionerate system was not bigger than what was being projected.
At midnight Friday (November 4), the local government ordinance re-promulgated by Sindh Governor expired leaving no administrative system in place.
