PPP Punjab bifurcated into Central and Southern set ups

KARACHI: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has bifurcated its organisational set-up in Punjab into PPP southern and PPP central Punjab to effectively manage party affairs and deal with people’s issues. “Makhdoom Shahabuddin has been appointed president of PPP southern Punjab and Chaudhry Safdar Imtiaz Warraich president of central Punjab”, said PPP Information Secretary Qamar Zaman Kaira on Friday. He was briefing reporters after the meeting of senior party leaders and office-bearers, mostly from Punjab, which was presided over by President and PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari at Bilawal House. The meeting was also attended by Punjab Governor Sardar Latif Khosa, Senator Babar Awan, Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Fauzia Wahab, Rukhsana Bangash, Raja Riaz and Chaudhry Imtiaz Safdar Warraich. He said that Punjab was a big province and it had become difficult to manage the party affairs there. It was also a long-standing demand of party members to divide the set-up into two zones. He said it was not a new move, as the PPP also had a southern set-up in the past. This was purely an organisational matter, he added. staff report
