Asma Jahangir to pursue missing persons’ case in SC

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: Asma Jahangir has decided to again pursue the cases of missing persons in the Supreme Court (SC) after the expiry of her tenure as Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president.

Talking to media persons at SC, Asma said that she had filed a petition from the platform of Human Rights Commission regarding the recovery of disappeared persons but later on, due to busy routine, she could not appear in this case regularly and now she would pursue these cases in the apex court.

“I am feeling relaxed because I have done the reasonability of bar presidentship in good manner,” she added. She hoped that newly elected SCBA president Yaseen Azad would also run the affairs of bar in a good way. Asma again objected to the appointment of ad hoc judges in superior judiciary and said that all the groups of lawyers were agreed not to accept adhocism in the judiciary. Asma claimed that she had run the bar independently and worked for the welfare of the legal fraternity.
