Karachiites celebrating Eid amid soaring inflation

KARACHI: Karachiites are celebrating Eidul Azha today amid soaring inflation, uncertain law and order situation and economic slowdown in the country. The day will begin with Eid prayers at mosques and Eidgahs, while special prayers for progress of the country and entire Muslim Umma will also be offered. On the first day of Eid, people are also engaged in looking after sacrificial animals. Meat, traditional dishes and presents are exchanged among families and relatives. People also share their joys with deprived segments of the society through distribution of meat and charity. Various prominent leaders of political and religious parties congratulated Eid happiness to people and asked them to remember flood-affected countrymen. Various individuals and welfare organisations like Edhi Foundation and Chhipa Welfare Organisation took measures to distribute new cloths, ration and financial assistance among needy and poor people. In the metropolis, collection of hides is becoming dispute among political and religious parties. Lack of proper check and balance system for inter-city fares, worst situation and deteriorating condition of railway department and negligence of relevant departments allowed transport mafia to take fares at their will. Like the earlier years practice, some influenced corrupt elements received extortion from citizens, who came for purchasing sacrificial cattle heads. staff report
