Pak hails Indian SC’s notice of Pak prisoners in IHK jails
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has hailed Indian Supreme Court’s notice of Pakistani nationals being held in various Indian jails without trial. On Friday, India’s Supreme Court had expressed shock that more than 250 Pakistanis were being held in Indian jails without ever having faced trial, with at least one behind bars since 1965. Talking to BBC on Saturday, Spokesperson to Foreign Office Tehmina Janjua said that during a meeting between the Pakistani and the Indian foreign ministers held in July, it was decided to resolve the issue of prisoners in both countries on immediate basis as a goodwill gesture. She said that the list of Pakistani prisoners submitted in Indian SC by the petitioner is different from the list made by Pakistan. While answering a query, she said that even such persons are held in various Indian jails whose nationality is yet to be ascertained while action is taken after ascertaining nationality. online
