MQM expresses reservations over Mirza’s visit to London

ISLAMABAD: A Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) delegation led by Dr Farooq Sattar on Wednesday met with Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and discussed the situation arising from Zulfiqar Mirza’s ‘irritating’ statements before leaving and on his arrival in London. The MQM has sought clarification on the matter of Zulfiqar Mirza going to London in the company of Sindh Information Minister Shajeel Memon. Zulfiqar Mirza, brandishing some documents, had said at the Karachi airport before leaving for London that he would provide proof to the Scotland Yard against the MQM leadership. Interior Minister Rehman Malik and Dr Asim Hussain were also present on this occasion. Speaking to the media on his arrival at Heathrow Airport, Zulfiqar Miraza said that his visit to London was aimed at sharing evidence of Dr Imran Farooq’s murder with British police. He, however, refused to divulge details of the evidence, fearing that it could be tampered with. MQM leader Babar Ghauri revealed outside the Parliament House that the party’s delegation asked the government if Zulfiqar Mirza enjoyed its backing. “We have expressed our concerns during a meeting with the prime minister,” he said. online
