Sharjeel says he stepped down voluntarily
KARACHI: Former Sindh information minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said on Saturday that his London visit had no link with Zulfiqar Mirza, while he tendered resignation from the ministry voluntarily.
“I was neither under pressure nor did anybody ask me to resign. I offered myself to step down if my London visit has caused any embarrassment to my party,” he said responding to queries by media at the Karachi airport afternoon on his arrival from Islamabad.
Sharjeel was called to Presidency on Friday to explain his position after MQM objected to his London visit. He tendered resignation after meeting with President Asif Zardari.
“Since I have tendered resignation from the office of information minister, I will return the official cars too,” he said while replying to a query. Memon said, ”My position as minister and membership of Sindh assembly is only because of PPP and the party is authorised to take it back, and being a loyal worker of party I voluntarily resigned.”
“PPP is my identity and will always remain loyal to it,” former minister said categorically stating that Dr Mirza was his personal friend and will always be.
When asked who called him to come back from London, Sharjeel said, he received a phone call from the Chief Minister’s House that the chief minister wanted him back.
Responding to another question if he would apologise to the MQM, Sharjeel said, ”MQM is coalition partner of my party, therefore, removing its concern is justified, but I will not apologise to it. “I am member of PPP and not of the coalition partner. I will not apologise to it,” he categorically stated. ppi
