President Zardari unaware of controversial memo: Abidi

Staff Report

KARACHI: Newly nominated president of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Karachi Division Senator Faisal Raza Abidi said on Tuesday that the conspiracy against the democratically elected government would not succeed, as President Zardari was completely unaware of the ‘controversial memo’.

The memo scandal was a conspiracy against the PPP government but it would not succeed like the conspiracies hatched in the past, he maintained, Abidi said while addressing PPP workers at the Karachi airport here on Tuesday.

Abidi was given a warm welcome on his arrival at the airport by thousands of PPP workers who gathered from different parts of the metropolis.

The activists and leaders of PPP Karachi division and other party wings, including People’s Students Federation and Sindh People’s Youth, were also present at the airport, hoisting party flags and portraits of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and President Zardari.

Abidi said he would not allow anyone to grab the land and use the party flags for illegal activities, and he would take action against those found guilty in such illicit work. He claimed that the PPP leaders and activists rendered unforgettable sacrifices for the restoration of the democratic process in the country. PPP activists would not allow the conspirators to derail the democratic process, he warned.

He alleged that Imran Khan had given an interview for the post of prime minister for three times to army general, but he did not succeed in his attempt to become the same.

Abidi claimed that he received life threats from terrorists but these threats would not halt his activities for the democracy and the party.
