General elections will determine real verdict of nation: Marri
* Sindh information minister says Zardari is symbol of unity
* Nawaz and Shahbaz should think before what they say
Staff Report
KARACHI: Sindh Information Minister Shazia Marri said on Wednesday that general elections would determine the real verdict of the nation instead of showing political strengthen in public gatherings and rallies by opposition and other parties.
This she observed while addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club (KPC) here on Wednesday. Marri further said that the struggle of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) over the years was the only political force, which sacrificed their leader first and then asked their workers to follow the path. She termed PPP as a disciplined party and said that they would continue to protect democracy in the country.
“PPP is an ideology, so it cannot be eliminated as it believed in provincial autonomy that was being discussed right from the creation of Pakistan but was implemented during the tenure of present government,” she pointed out. Under the country’s constitution, President and Co-chairman PPP Asif Ali Zardari is the symbol of unity, she said, adding, the president and the prime minister would continue their struggle for the unity of the nation.
Criticising the chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan, she questioned that how could he knew in advance about the resignation of former ambassador to United States Hussain Haqqani”. Now he and his party workers are ignoring these questions raised by the media, she pointed out. A real rally is that in which people join voluntarily but not with the greed of having entertainment and meals, she remarked. Marri said, “It is the strange to hear the comments of the former cricket team captain that his rally was ‘copied’. Some politicians forgot that politics is the name of serving people rather than carrying their own agenda,” she maintained.
She said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders Mian Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif should think before what they say. Politics is all about commitments; she said and informed that most agreed points of the Charter of Democracy (COD) had already been implemented. It was agreed that politicians would work under a system while any unconstitutional attempt would not be welcomed, she added.
Marri said that she was disappointed over the deeds of some politicians. She said that dictators over the years had tried to divide the nation but PPP had strengthened the might of the masses. The priorities of the PPP have not changed, as they wanted to empower the people, she added.
APP adds: Sindh Information Minister Shazia Marri on Wednesday said that all senior leaders and activists of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) had full confidence into President Asif Ali Zardari. This she stated while talking to newsmen during a visit to KPC. She said that the people of interior Sindh were waiting for assistance in the tough time. No one should play with the sentiments of the people of Sindh and should not play politics in the name of aid, she added.
President KPC Tahir Hassan Khan, Secretary KPC Mossa Kaleem and other office-bearers of the club were also present on the occasion. She said the PPP-led government was pursuing the election manifesto of the PPP, which had been given by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. The present government is facing different challenges, including economic crisis, she said. Tahir Hassan Khan expressed gratitude to Sindh information minister for visiting KPC.
