Shah Mehmood Qureshi joins PTI

GHOTKI: Former foreign minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Sunday formally announced joining Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). The former foreign minister made this announcement in the presence of PTI Chief Imran Khan at a public meeting in the southern town of Ghotki, part of the broad hinterland in Sindh and Punjab. “I announce I am joining a movement, which is struggling to win justice for people,” Qureshi said of the PTI, which is fast emerging as a powerful player in the run-up to elections due early 2013. Qureshi lost his position as cabinet minister in a February reshuffle. He was offered another portfolio, which he refused, and this month resigned as lawmaker representing the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). He along with Imran Khan and other party leaders also joined hands at the stage and expressed unity and support for the PTI. Earlier, during his address on the occasion, he also announced to participate in the next public meeting of the PTI scheduled for December 25 at Mizar-e-Quaid, Karachi. In his speech, Imran said that the election would be held in the party at all levels and the party affairs would be managed on merit. He said that Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi was his old friend and he had invited him to join the party. Imran Khan said that the time had come to make Pakistan a self-reliant country. He also hoped that the party’s public meeting in Karachi would be successful. agencies
