Zulfikarabad city will meet country’s needs: president
KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari Wednesday directed that due stock be taken in fulfilling ecological requirements for the new Zulfiqarabad city in Thatta district.
The President while chairing a meeting to review the ongoing project at Bilawal House said: “Zulfiqarabad has to be and will be a model city to meet the needs of country.” He said the new city was destined to gain commercial and economic prominence in next few years. The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, provincial ministers, Pakistan Ambassador to USA Sherry Rehman, MNA Shazia Marri, senior officials of Zulfiqarabad Development Authority and officials of president’s secretariat.
Zardari was given an extensive briefing about the project by Managing Director Zulfiqarabad Development Authority Lt Gen (retd) Iftikhar Hussain Shah.
The meeting discussed in detail different issues about the Zulfikarabad city that would require one million acres of land in stage-I. The President said the project would also retain the cultural and historical traditions of Thatta, which at one point of time was also a major commercial hub in South Asia. Secretary General to President Salman Farooqui, Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Sindh Law Minister Ayaz Soomro, Special Assistant to Sindh Chief Minister Sharmila Farooqui, Mumtaz Ali Halepoto and Zulfiqarabad Development Authority director also attended the meeting. app
