British envoy appreciates BISP’s achievements

ISLAMABAD: British High Commissioner to Pakistan Adam Thompson on Thursday said the transparent methodology employed by the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) to provide innovative solutions were highly appreciable.

He said this during a meeting with BISP Chairwoman Farzana Raja. Alexis Ferrand, Economic Growth Group adviser, UK Department for International Development (DFID), was also present.

During the meeting, besides other areas of mutual and national interest, ‘Waseela-e-Taleem’ programme of the BISP came under discussion. The programme is aimed at promoting education in general and imparting education to the children from poor families in particular. The scheme is in line with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) for the year 2015 regarding the Universal Primary Education.

Farzana informed the high commissioner that the programme had been launched with an aim to promote education among the underprivileged segments of society. She said that three million children from beneficiary families of BISP were to be enrolled in schools under the scheme. app
