SC withholds Rs 24bn funds of Balochistan
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday withheld funds of Rs 24 billions allocated for 732 non-development projects in Balochistan under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).
A two-member SC bench of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Justice Jawwad S Khawaja withheld the funds while hearing a petition by Abdul Rahim, a leader of Pakhtunkwa Milli Awami Party. The court asked the Balochistan government to constitute an independent commission for the audit of all PSDP schemes undertaken in the province during the last four years. Balochistan AG Amanullah Kinrani told the bench that the provincial government had issued a notification regarding constitution of a three-member commission to probe the alleged corruption by the previous government. staff report
