Membership of 37 lawmakers still suspended
ISLAMABAD: The membership of 37 parliamentarians and members of the four provincial assemblies is still suspended, as they are yet to submit the annual statement of assets and liabilities with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
According to sources in the ECP, the parliamentarians include Senator Haji Lashkari Raisani, MNA Humayun Aziz Kurd and MNA Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari. Members of provincial assemblies who did not submit the statement of assets so far include 29 from Punjab, three from Sindh and two from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. All members of the Balochistan Assembly have submitted the statements, sources said further.
The ECP had suspended memberships of 154 MPs and MPAs on October 15 for not submitting the statement of assets but later 117 members had complied with the constitutional obligation and their membership was restored.
On the other hand, 102 MNAs, 56 senators and 135 members of four provincial assemblies are yet to submit affidavits on dual nationality. The 135 MPAs include 84 from Sindh Assembly, 39 from Punjab Assembly, 10 from KP Assembly and two from Balochistan Assembly, the ECP sources said. The ECP had warned all lawmakers to submit declarations stating they do not hold dual nationality – else it will be assumed that they possess citizenship of more than one country. tahir niaz
