One who honours law would lead people: CJP
SHEIKHUPURA: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said that the man who honours law has the right to lead the country.
Speaking at the Sheikhupura Bar Association, Justice Chaudhry said that rule of law was a guarantee to the security and survival of the country.
He said that dictators had tried to devastate law order in the country, but the lawyers’ community had decided on November 3 to liberate it from dictators who had nothing to do with civil rights.
He said that history records that the first constitution of the state was formed by the parliament.
He said that rulers in the past had imposed emergency in order to suppress the lawyers’ movement, but young lawyers proved with their unconditional and sincere sacrifices that they would not compromise national interests.
With the passage of time, they proved that they were sincere to their cause, the chief justice said.
He said that nobody dared to face dictatorship in the country, but the lawyers’ movement challenged the dictators and ultimately with the support of other sections of society succeeded in achieving their goal. They not only got the judiciary liberated but also ousted the dictator who had underestimated the rule of law, he said. He repeated that now the parliament and the judiciary would never support any martial law. online
