Karachi case verdict to be implemented in letter and spirit: Malik

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Saturday said the Interior Ministry would soon convene a high-level meeting to discuss the Supreme Court order and mode of implementation in the Karachi law and order case, as the government is determined to remove apex court’s reservations on the situation in the city.

Talking to reporters, the minister said the SC’s interim order on the law and order situation in Karachi would be implemented in letter and spirit. He said the government would highlight the issues that were not in the knowledge of the Supreme Court.

To a question regarding Taliban’s presence in Karachi, he said action against Taliban is continuing, adding he had directed the Rangers to continue with their duties to maintain law and order in the city. He said some people were released on parole during the previous government and added action should have been taken against them during that period.

To another question, he said the government would take action against culprits without any discrimination in the Asghar Khan case once the Supreme Court issues a detailed verdict. He said PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif has expressed confidence in the FIA, adding he was ready to appoint an officer of Nawaz’s choice to further probe the matter.

Answering a question... he said collective effort is needed to resolve the Balochistan issue, adding he would give a detailed briefing to the court on the province’s issue. To a question, Malik said he had asked the UK government for granting an extended visa to the father of Malala Yousufzai and not for political asylum.
