AG yet to receive orders to write Swiss letter as deadline looms

ISLAMABADL: With five days left for the government to write letter to Swiss authorities to reopen graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari in the wake of Supreme Court orders, the chief law officer of the country Attorney General Irfan Qadir has yet to receive orders in this regard.

Geo News on Monday quoted the AG as saying that he was not ordered to write the Swiss letter so far. “If I am asked to do so, I will write the letter in accordance with the law and the Constitution,” he said while talking to media outside the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Answering questions regarding the Swiss letter issue, he said he could be asked for an advice over the issue but court could not order him to do so.

“I have always opposed writing letter to the Swiss whether by government or court,” he said.

It is to mention here that the tussle between the apex court and the government over the Swiss letter came to an end after the Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf bowed to the court orders unlike his predecessor Mr Yousuf Raza Gilani, who was sent packing for defying the orders of Supreme Court.

The government was given one-month dead line to write the letter, which would end on November, 10, and to produce a report to the court in this regard.
