Pakistan has vital role in Afghan peace process: US envoy

ISLAMABAD:New US Ambassador to Pakistan Richard Olson has said that work on improving relations with Islamabad and on improving Washington’s image in Pakistan would be continued during the next four years of President Obama in the White House, Geo News reported on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters, the US envoy said that Pakistan’s role in Afghan peace process was vital, adding that the country had rendered sacrifices more than any other country during its efforts against war on terrorist.

He said that his country wanted to work in collaboration with the Pakistani government. Answering a question regarding his meetings with Pakistani politicians, he said that he would meet as many leaders as he could.

The US ambassador termed the next general election in Pakistan as country’s internal issue. However, he dubbed the smooth transition of power during the next few months a big achievement for Pakistan.
