‘People will reject corrupt, inefficient rulers’
* PML-N president says central point of speeches made by chief justice, army chief is to ensure predominance of constitution
LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif said on Wednesday that people would reject corrupt and inefficient rulers in the upcoming elections.
Addressing a meeting of PML-N Monitoring Committee on By-elections, Nawaz said that corruption and bad governance were the impediments to progress and prosperity of the country. He said that the PML-N would win the next elections, adding that party would root out corruption if it comes into power
The PML-N president said that the party would put the country on the path of economic stability and progress through good governance.
“Making Pakistan a modern and developed state is PML-N’s commitment and part of its manifesto,” he said, adding that the party would work on war footings to address people’s problems by bringing “revolution: in the country.
Members of the monitoring committee presented reports on by-elections to the party chief.
PML-N leaders Ahsan Iqbal, Zulfiqar Khosa, Rana Sanaullah, Rana Tanveer Hussain, Rana Mashhood, Hamza Shahbaz, Raja Ashfaq Sarwar, Saira Afzal Tarar and committee members from Jhelum, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal and Gujranwala attended the meeting. Separately, Nawaz said in a statement that everyone has committed mistakes in the past, including politicians, judges and generals.
He said it is a highly welcome sign that these mistakes are being realised, interest in reforms is being expressed and predominance of constitution and law is being acknowledged.
He said that the army is the symbol of Pakistan’s solidarity and defence and every patriotic Pakistani wants to see the Pakistan Army united and strong. He said that any action to create rift, division and bifurcation in the army is against the national interests. He said that judiciary is performing the sacred role of providing justice in light of constitution and law. He said that lawyers, people and the media had launched a historic struggle for the restoration of judiciary.
He said that interpretation of constitution is the ultimate prerogative of judiciary. He said that awarding punishment to any person regardless of his position, name or status is the constitutional responsibility of judiciary.
