Pakistan is determined to provide education to children: Brown

ISLAMABAD: Former British Prime Minister and current UN Special Envoy for Global Education, Gordon Brown has launched the Waseela-e-Taleem (Right to Education) project of the Benazir Income Support Programme.

During the launching ceremony, Brown said he was pleased to be in Pakistan for what was a great day for children and the country.

“I am pleased because this measure shows Pakistan’s determination that every single child will have the chance for an education,” Brown said.

Brown added that the international community wanted to work in supporting Pakistan in its determination to tackle poverty and ensuring that every child went to school.

Gordon Brown also declared that November 10 (Saturday) would be observed as ‘Malala Day’ across the world.

The former British prime minister handed over the Million Signatures Campaign on Compulsory education.

Meanwhile President Asif Ali Zardari speaking during the same ceremony said no country could progress without education and illiteracy and poverty were linked.
