Every institution bound to respect constitution: CJP
ABBOTTABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said on Saturday every institution is bound to respect the constitution.
Addressing members of the legal fraternity in Abbottabad, the CJP said lawyers have proved that the constitution is supreme.
He praised parliament for not approving illegal steps taken by a dictator in the past. The CJP said Pakistan has become a civilised country and the system should run under law and constitution.
Justice Chaudhry said that the judiciary alone could not impart justice without proper assistance of lawyers. Therefore, he added, steps necessary for the smooth running of the system of administration of justice must be undertaken. He said lawyers have also the responsibility of striving for the upholding of the rule of law. “They have to raise voice for the protection of fundamental rights of people,” the CJP said. He said, “It is right of people to get justice and judges are striving hard to deliver the justice to the best of their abilities. In this regard, a National Judicial Policy was formulated in consultation with all the stakeholders of the system of administration of justice to make sure the eradication of corruption, independence of judiciary and reduction of backlog of cases.” abdul khaliq qureshi/online
