France willing to work with BISP: Thiebaud
* BISP chairperson welcomes French government’s offer

ISLAMABAD: Various initiatives of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), especially Waseela-e-Sehat (right to health) and Waseela-e-Taleem (right to education), are vital interventions with regard to the objectives of women’s empowerment, said the French ambassador.
Keeping in view the effectiveness of the programme, France is willing to work with the BISP, especially to promote girls’ education and healthcare facilities for the women, he added. Philippe Thiebaud said this while talking to BISP Chairwoman Farzana Raja during a meeting at the BISP Secretariat on Monday.
Thiebaud said that the data collected by the programme for the identification of deserving families is quite significant and should be shared with the development organisations to avoid duplication of efforts in the social sector. He said that children are future of any nation and hence, by making children its focus, the BISP is a doing a commendable job.
Farzana welcomed the French government’s offer to work with the BISP. She said that the BISP is ready to share its poverty census data with France as per the Data Sharing Protocols devised so that it could be beneficial for various interventions in the social sector.
Chairperson BISP termed Waseela-e-Sehet and Waseela-e-Taleem as revolutionary projects of the BISP. She said that Waseela-e-Taleem would impart education to 3 million children from beneficiary families and Waseela-e-Sehet initiative is quite instrumental in helping underprivileged segments of society by enabling them to mitigate their immediate needs through health cover and life insurance.
She said further that women, children and youth are prime consideration of the programme and it has laid down the foundations of socio-economic revolution in the country through the steps aiming at well being of these segments of society. She thanked France for its support to Pakistan. The possibilities of mutual cooperation in various interventions in social sector also came under detailed discussion during the meeting.
