PM, Cabinet express concern over Karachi situation
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and the Cabinet members have expressed serious concerns over the prevalent violent situation in Karachi, Geo News reported Wednesday.
While chairing the Federal Cabinet meeting here today, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf said that federal government would extend all possible assistance to the provincial governments and directed that all possible measures be taken for the improvement of law and order situation in Karachi.
The Prime Minister requested the citizens to keep an eye on suspicious activities of miscreants and inform the law enforcement agencies about any such activity. He also urged the religious scholars to play their role in bringing peace to the city.
He said the ongoing spate of violence in Karachi is a matter of serious concern as miscreants are trying to create sectarian strife in Karachi.
''We are all mindful of the fact that extremism, militancy, intolerance, sectarian violence and terrorism, have posed a serious threat and challenge to our sovereignty, security and national cohesion'', he observed.
Prime Minister said, ''We, as a Nation, have to thwart sinister designs of the terrorists and the Government, would play its part in eliminating these elements''.
Keeping in mind the sanctity of the Holy month of Moharrum-ul-Haraam, the PM directed law enforcement agencies of all the provinces to further beef up security arrangements, keep a vigilant eye and evolve mechanism to maintain peace and harmony.
The PM, in his remarks, condemned the suicide attack on Rangers Headquarter in Karachi. The Cabinet also expressed deep sorrow and grief over the loss of precious lives in the cowardly act of terrorism. The concerned authorities have been directed for provision of best medical facilities for the injured.
On the death of former senator and law minister Iqbal Haider, who passed away the other day, Raja Pervez Ashraf condoled his death.
