PM summons Balochistan CM over ‘indiscipline’

Staff Report

QUETTA: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Wednesday summoned Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani and PPP members of Balochistan Assembly (BA) to Islamabad over violation of party’s discipline.

According to PPP sources, members of the PPP not only participated in the session of BA on November 13 without permission of provincial leadership but also voted for the chief minister.

Sources said that on the directive of President Asif Ali Zardari, Qayyum Soomro and Rukhsana Bangash are also arriving in Quetta to attend a high-level meeting on the current situation of Balochistan.

Talking to the media, PPP Balochistan President Mir Sadiq Umrani said that the vote of confidence for the chief minister has “no constitutional status”.

“The PPP had not posed its confidence in the CM and members, who voted for him, had not taken permission from the party leadership,” Umrani said.

He said that in light of the interim order of the Supreme Court, the Balochistan government had lost its constitutional status, adding that those who participated in the “unconstitutional session” of the BA would be accountable before people.

However, Umrani said BA Speaker Aslam Bhootani had adopted a constitutional way and asked for advice of the governor for calling the assembly session.

“We don’t want politics of clash and have fought a long battle for constitutional supremacy,” he said.
