Asghar Khan case: SC office returns review petition

ISLAMABAD: Registrar office of Supreme Court has returned the review petition filed by PPP-led federal government challenging the apex court’s verdict in Asghar Khan case.

According to the registrar office sources, the office returned the petition as the Rs 10,000 fees of the court was not attached to it.

The government expressed reservations regarding the apex court's observation on the role of presidency in its judgment.

The petition contended that the office of Presidency is of political nature which can not be linked with other government office.

It is pertinent to mention here that the SC’s verdict said that the president remains the head of the state and represents the unity of the republic, therefore, after having been sworn in as the President of Pakistan, he owes a constitutional duty to represent the unity of the republic as head of the state and is not supposed under the constitution to support any favoured candidate in the elections or a group of political parties like IJI (Islami Jamhoori Ittehad).
