No co. could take favors beyond law: CJ

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry Wednesday said that no company could take such favor, which is not provided in the law and added that Tethyan Company was given extraordinary favors, the court has to be satisfied that no violation of law committed in the contract.

SC three-judge bench headed by the CJ Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing the Reko Diq case here.

Tethyan Company’s attorney Khalid Anwar made a plea that the company would never have made any investment had it not been assured of the mining license. The company, which explores the reserves, it establishes its right of mining also. The total cost of the project estimated at $3.3 billion, if the contract was terminated, then the government would not have the resources to get the mining done on its own consequently the state would be the loser.

Thereafter, CJ in his remarks said that the country by the Grace of God was a nuclear power, don’t doubt it capability.
