US ex-envoy, Munter, stresses 'fair' use of drone attacks
WASHINGTON: Former US ambassador to Pakistan, Cameron Munter, Tuesday stressed on US for rational engagement of its unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for striking its enemies on other countries soil, Geo News reported.
“I and Pentagon were not on the same page with regard to drone attacks,” said he during an interview.
Reminiscing his days in Pakistan as envoy, he said some quarters, after he was recalled back to US, "conspiracy-theorized" that he were somewhat upset over the drone attacks, which was not true.
“I firmly believe in the effectiveness of drones as a weapon of war, so dubbing me as someone who was against the use of pilotless spy plane attacks was nothing but an overambitious assumption”, said Munter.
Munter, going forward, also added that "use" of anything was one thing and "abuse" another, the former was fair but the latter was not.
“It’s like killing the golden-egg laying goose. I am afraid that’s exactly what could happen to drones, if the US administration continues to be use them irrationally”, former US envoy said.
