Parliament passes resolution against Israeli brutality in Gaza
* Houses say no action taken by world community against Israeli violations of international law
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly and Senate on Tuesday passed separate resolutions to condemn Israeli aggression on Palestine and express solidarity with the people of Gaza.
The resolution in the Lower House was moved by the MQM, while the joint resolution in the Upper House was moved by opposition leader in the Senate Ishaq Dar.
Both resolutions indicated the illegal acts of aggression by Israeli forces on Gaza – killing and wounding innocent men, women and children – had exposed the brutal nature of the Israeli government, which has been emboldened to take unilateral military action amounting to state terrorism. They added no punitive action had been taken by the international community against Israel’s previous transgressions and violations of international law.
The Lower House also paid tribute to the valiant Palestinians, who had withstood decades of tyranny with courage and conviction that their righteous cause shall prevail and that establishment of an independent Palestine state would become a reality in the near future. It called upon the international community, particularly the UN, to act immediately to bring an end to the use of military power by Israeli regime.
In the Senate, Ishaq Dar asked the UN to intervene and stop Israeli aggression against innocent Palestinians. Mir Hasil Bizenjo regretted the US, UN and European countries had shut their eyes to Israeli brutality.
The National Assembly passed another resolution – moved by the PML-N – against brutal acts on Rohingya Muslims minority community in Myanmar. The resolution condemned the continuing failure of the Myanmar government to protect the Rohingya Muslims.
The House called upon the Myanmar government to perform its constitutional, legal and moral duties and take immediate steps to stop the violence against this community.
“This House also urged Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi to play her role to protect the helpless community and ensure they were treated as equal citizens,” the resolution mentioned. The Upper House also condemned violence against the Muslim community in Myanmar.
Moreover, Interior Minister Rehman Malik told the Upper House the situation in the city was not good, however, appropriate measures have been taken to improve it.
