SC to resume hearing of Karachi unrest case on Monday

KARACHI: The Supreme Court (SC) will resume hearing of the Karachi unrest case at its Karachi registry from November 26, Monday, and notices have been issued to relevant officials of the government to appear before it in this regard.

A five-member larger bench had already issued notices to the attorney general of Pakistan (AGP), Sindh chief secretary, advocate general Sindh, secretary Election commission of Pakistan (ECP), director land KDA, director settlement survey, director general National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra), prosecutor general (PG) Sindh, Sindh home secretary, inspector general of police Sindh (IGP) and Land Utilisation Board of Revenue official to appear before it in the hearing.

The SC larger bench comprising Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani, Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Gulzar Ahmed will restart hearing the case.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry had formed a five-member larger bench of the SC to resume hearing the suo motu case of targeted killings and extortion in the city. The SC had given an interim order in this regard a few weeks ago pertaining to the compliance of its first order given by a bench headed by CJP. Later the same larger bench headed by Justice Jamali issued the interim order.

SC will resume hearing on the interim order to review the order and ask the Sindh government, including all other relevant authorities, whether they complied with the directives of the interim order.
