President, PM urge nation to stand by the good against evil

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf have said that Youm-e-Ashur reminds us of the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions who proved that for a true Muslim nothing is more important in the world than the honour and dignity of the religion.

They said the internal and external turmoil is a war between good and bad.

They urged Muslims to learn from the example of the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and the Ahle Bait and continue a struggle for higher values and triumph of good over evil.

In a message on the occasion of Ashura in Muharram ul Haram 1434 Hijri, the president said today is the 10th of the honourable and dignified month of Muharram and on this day Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS), grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) along with his 72 companions embraced martyrdom in Karbala for the goodness and glory of Islam.

He said the event which occurred today is the most important in the history of Islam and reminds us of the ultimate sacrifices of the Ahle Bait and their companions.

“The incident teaches all Muslims to render sacrifice for higher values and the triumph of goodness.”

The president said the unforgettable sacrifice in the incident of Karbala reflects the fact that in the fight between good and evil, real victory belongs to good and without doubt evil will be defeated.

“While filled with sorrow for Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS), let us pledge that we will not hesitate to render any sacrifice in the fight between good and evil and always continue our struggle for the triumph of goodness while keeping before us the examples of steadfastness of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and patience of Ahle Bait.

Let us pledge that we will always battle against Yazeediat, oppression and evil,” he added.

The president said, “We should always remember that the objective of creation of Pakistan was for the highest purposes for which the family of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) gave sacrifices.”

“Today we have to reiterate our pledge that not only we will follow the teachings of Islam in our lives but will also fight with those forces who want to surrender Pakistan at the altar of narrow mindedness and evil for their selfish interests.”

“We have to forget our petty differences and have to adopt the highest teachings of Islam and promote the lofty goals of peace, security, brotherhood, patience and steadfastness,” he added.

The president said the best way to pay tribute to Imam Hussain (AS), the leader of all martyrs is to adopt his character and face difficulties with courage.

“In this way we can not only overcome these problems but we can also adopt the real teachings of Islam and succeed in this life and hereafter,” he added.

In his message on the occasion of Ashura, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf said the best way to pay tributes to Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) is to follow his character and maintain unity and discipline in ranks to achieve glory of Islam.

He said, “While filled with the sense of sacrifice, let us utilise all our energies for the glory of Islam and welfare of nation and make Pakistan a place of peace and security in real terms.”

The battle that took place between good and evil on Youm-e-Ashur, kept alive the religion of Islam till the day of judgement, he added.

Prime Minister Ashraf said even today there is a battle going on in the country between good and evil.

It is unfortunate that those who believe in one Allah and one Prophet (PBUH) are divided in sects. Islam preaches solidarity, equality, brotherhood, goodness and security for the whole mankind, but some people are exploiting the prejudices of sectarianism, he added.

The prime minister said those who are sowing seeds of sectarianism and extremism are neither well wishers of Islam nor of Pakistan.

“Violation of the golden principles of Islam created in us the differences based on hate, prejudice and sectarianism,” he added.

The prime minister said today the whole nation is united for the eradication of terrorism and the government realises its responsibility.

“By the grace of Allah Pakistan has to move forward and we have to maintain continuity of democracy, we have to improve our economy so that we can end poverty, ignorance and unemployment from our country.”

He said, “Human history testifies that the period of extremists and militant groups is not long and Inshallah Pakistan will be free of these people and peace will prevail here.

Inshallah defeat is fate of those creating chaos.” “May Allah be our protector and benefactor. Ameen,” he concluded.
