Noted writer Ardeshir Cowasjee passes away

KARACHI: Well-known for his outspoken stand against corruption and various social and political issues, Ardeshir Cowasjee, a senior columnist, writer, intellectual and philanthropist passed away at a local hospital on Saturday. He was 86.

Cowasjee was suffering from chest pains and had been admitted to a Karachi hospital’s Intensive Care Unit 12 days ago. He was born on April 13, 1926 in Karachi to a well-known Parsi family. He is survived by two children – Ava and Rustam.

Many of Cowasjee’s columns became the cause of several suo motu notices by the courts. Through the Cowasjee Foundation, he supported various welfare projects, particularly in education sector. In their condolence messages, President Asif Zardari, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and a large number of other prominent personalities hailed the services of Cowasjee for the welfare of society.

Cowasjee’s funeral will be held on November 27. His Sarosh prayers will be held on November 25 (today) and 26 at 5:45pm at his residence 10, Mary Road, Bath Island, Karachi. staff report/app
