Humanitarian diplomacy termed key to promote Indo-Pak peace

ISLAMABAD: People-to-people contact and humanitarian diplomacy between Pakistan and India is a key for a lasting peace in the region.
This was stated by visiting members of the India Pakistan Soldiers’ Initiative (IPSI) delegation, during a visit to the Pakistan Red Crescent Society’s (PRCS) National Headquarters on Friday.
The delegation included IPSI India President Lt Gen (r) Moti Dar, Maj Gen (r) Raj Chadha, Maj Gen (r) HC Sharma, IPSI India Secretary General Brig (r) JL Kaul, Col (r) Prabhakar, Sq Ldr (r) Chhina, Col (r) AR Khan and Col (r) Gautam Das.
PRCS Chairman Major General (r) Chaudhry Muhammad Nawaz Khan welcoming the delegation said that the society’s mission is to alleviate the sufferings of the vulnerable without any discrimination of creed, colour, race, religion and nationality, as per the seven fundamental principles of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement. He said that both the PRCS and the IPSI were on the same page in this regard, adding that peace was a key to progress and prosperity of the region.
He said that initiatives like this would help bridge the gap between the two countries and develop better understanding of each other’s humanitarian issues. General Nawaz said that peace in the region would ensure better support to each other during any disaster or calamity. Speaking on the occasion, IPSI India President Lt Gen (r) Moti Dar appreciated the efforts of the PRCS in serving the vulnerable segments of society. He said that all nations should join hands to serve humanity. “It is only possible through peace. The IPSI aims at promoting peace between both the countries through people-to-people contact, as people are the real force that can bring a change.”
General (r) Moti Dar said that India wanted a stable Pakistan that would help promote peace and economic prosperity in the region, and emphasised that the misconception that India wanted to destabilise Pakistan was over.
The delegation also took a round of the PRCS photo gallery where PRCS Secretary General Dr Mahboob Sardar briefed the visitors on the society’s activities.
The delegation also visited the PRCS Blood Donor Centre and registered donated blood samples.
PRCS Director (Operations) M Ateeb Siddiqui gave a detailed presentation to the visiting delegation on the PRCS structures and its activities all over the country.
