Govt delegation to Taliban talks stopped after Hakimullah’s killing

ISLAMABAD: A government delegation, which was to go for negotiations with the Taliban has been stopped after reports that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) chief Hakimullah Mehsood being killed in a US drone attack.

Sources said that the three-member delegation was to leave on Saturday to open formal talks with the militants. The killing of Taliban leader is a latest blow to the Nawaz-Sharif-led government’s efforts to engage the militant organization, which has waged a bloodiest war against Pakistan, in talks.

Mehsud was killed in a drone attack in Danday Darpa Khel area of North Waziristan tribal region today (Friday).
