Nisar says drone attack an attempt to sabotage talks with Taliban

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has termed the recent US drone attack in North Waziristan an attempt to sabotage Pakistan’s efforts to hold talks with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in a bid to put an end to spate of violence unleashed by the militia.

Talking to reporters, the minister said the government was about to send a three-member delegation to invite the Taliban to talks. Nisar did not give details of the drone attack, which took place on Friday (today) in North Waziristan, killing at least six people.

A spy plane fired missiles at a vehicle in Danday Darpa Khel area of the North Waziristan, which many say is the bastion of the terror outfit. Local sources claimed TTP chief Hakimullah Mehsudthe would use car, which was destroyed in the attack.

The drone attack is seen as setback to government’s efforts to engage the militants in talks while experts also fear backlash in other parts of the country.
