Joint opp wants interior minister to apologise

* Announces to submit privilege motion against Nisar for providing wrong figures on killings in terror incidents and drone attacks

ISLAMABAD: The opposition in Senate on Thursday sought an apology from Interior Minister Nisar Ali Khan for giving wrong figures on killings in incidents of terrorism and drone strikes and announced to move a privilege motion against him if he did not apologise.

The joint opposition, led by Opposition Leader in the Senate Aitzaz Ahsan, also put the condition of apology before the interior minister for participating in the session against his “insulting and unparliamentary attitude towards opposition members”.

Aitzaz, flanked by the leaders of Awami National Party, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) and Balochistan National Party-Awami (BNP-A), criticised the minister for feeding wrong information to the senators and vowed not to let the government escape from the House. PPP Parliamentary Leader in the Senate Mian Raza Rabbani also criticised Nisar Ali Khan for his attempts to hold parliament and executive “hostage”.

“Some time back a person namely Sikandar held the Islamabad hostage for hours and now he [the minister] is trying to hold the parliament hostage,” Raza said.

ANP Parliamentary Leader Haji Adeel said that opposition wants to participate in the House but with dignity and honour and would not tolerate attitude of Nisar. Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah said that Nisar Ali Khan has been adopting the executive style rather than that of a parliamentarian.
