Proceedings in Senate marred by opposition’s boycott

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: The chairman adjourned the Senate’s proceedings due to lack of quorum as the opposition boycotted the fourth sitting of the 98th session of the Upper House of Parliament on Thursday. The opposition – excluding MQM senators – boycotted the sitting over the interior minister’s conduct with opposition members who accused him of presenting wrong figures about killing in terrorism incidents in response to a question put before the House at the previous sitting. As there were only seven members at the beginning of the proceedings, PPP lawmaker Islamuddin Sheikh pointed out the quorum after recitation of the holy Quran. The proceedings were then adjourned. A standing committee report, questions and a calling attention notice left unaddressed on Thursday.
