Staff Report
LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) carried out a protest against price hike and demanded of the incumbent government to summon the Punjab Assembly session to discuss the issue.
PTI leadership including provincial president Ejaz Ch, Oppostion Leader Mian Mehmood ur Rasheed, Secretary Information Andleeb Abbas, MNAs Shafqat Mehmood, Aleem Khan, Khurshid Mehmood Qqasoori, Murad Raas, Mian Aslam Iqbal and a large number of workers participated in the protest.
The protesters were carrying placards against inflation and the government and chanting slogans on government’s injustice. Speaking on the occasion, Mian Mehmood ur Rashid declared said that provincial chief minister had abundant the province and handed over his duties to his son Hamza Shahbaz Sharif.
Mehmood said the PML-N government had broken all previous records of inflation and had no intention of fulfilling all the promises they had made of giving relief to the masses. He stated in its initial five months, PML-N government had done the worst than PPP government.
He said that government was planning further increase in prices of different items that would seriously affect the lives of ordinary people. He demanded that the Punjab assembly be immediately requisitioned so that the government office bearers could be taken to the task for their anti-poor policies.
MNA Shafqat Mehmood said this government had no plan and vision for economic revival and thus was continuously making policies that were plunging the country into deeper mess. He said the people of Pakistan could not bear this huge burden of inflation and would come out on the streets on the call of PTI Chairman Imran Khan. He added that Khan had predicted that these two governments –PML-N and the PPP—were only with one agenda and that was to make themselves rich and poor people of Pakistan even poorer.
PTI Punjab President Ejaz Chaudhry said PTI was the only party who has come out on the streets for the people of Pakistan and will not step back on any major issues being drones of inflation.
He said that the government’s decision to decrease 48 paisa in the price of petrol showed how non serious and indifferent they were towards plights of people. He said the PTI will stage continuing protests after Muharram and demand of the government to take serious measures for providing relief to the people.
Secretary Information Andleeb Abbas said OGRA had recommended reduction of Rs 2.50 in petrol prices but the government has only passed on 48 paisas of relief to the people and kept two rupees in their pocket. She said the government instead of giving subsidy to the people had to subsidise their foreign trips along with their whole family while the country was going through the most difficult period of its existence.
Other political activists also participated in the protest.
