Walks, seminars mark Anti-dengue Day in Punjab
LAHORE: Anti-dengue Day was observed across the province on Sunday as awareness walks were taken out by students, employees of health and other provincial departments along with non governmental organizations (NGO).
Seminars and walks were organised in various big and small cities of the province to mark the day. Leaders of the walks were holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans to fight against dengue and creating awareness among the public.
Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif, spearheading the campaign, visited Holy Family Hospital Rawalpindi and enquired the health of dengue patients. The chief minister was briefed on medical facilities being provided by the hospital to the patients. He directed the hospital authorities to pay full attention to all the patients including those suffering from dengue fever.
Shahbaz also directed the management to ensure cleanliness at the hospital.
The chief minister ordered immediate purchase of modern dengue diagnostic machine for holy family hospital and its handover by the evening.
Talking to media persons, the chief minister said the government was ready to deal with the challenge of dengue and all sections of the society were being involved in the anti-dengue campaign.
On the occasion, Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Secretary Health Punjab Ahsan Iqbal, principal Rawalpindi Medical College, and other doctors as well as MPAs were present.
All the teaching and administrative departments of Punjab Universit remained open on Sunday and observed a full-swing drive against dengue.
Seminars were also organised in various departments of Punjab University.
Addressing a seminar at Zoology Department, PU Registrar and Chairman Department of Botany Prof Dr Khan Rass Masood said PU’s Dengue Research Group consisted of entomologists, virologists, psychologists, botanists, medical experts and scientists of other fields and it would produce positive results.
Meanwhile, addressing the seminars held in different cities, the speakers including health experts, government officials and teachers threw light at aims to observe the day.
They said it was paramount duty of all the citizens to keep their houses and places of business neat and clean and arrange periodical spray to destroy dengue larva.
Officials said the employees of health and other government departments had been ordered to conduct cleanliness in their respective areas failing which strict action will be taken against them. The speakers also stressed the need of creating awareness among the people regarding dengue fever and hazards of the polluted environment.
Anti-dengue walks were also held in Multan, Sargodha, Rawalpindi, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Faisalabad and other cities of the province which were attended by large number of people belonging to different walks of life and students.
The teachers and students fully participated to mark the day and set up anti dengue camps in different cities.
The doctors and paramedical staff of the government hospitals also organised walks. They stressed upon the hospital staff to keep hospitals and their surrounding places neat and clean and arrange fumigation spray for eradication of dengue. inp
