Federal, provincial govts asked to review security
ISLAMABAD: The Interior Ministry has directed federal and all provincial governments to review security arrangements and comprehensive security measures should be adopted during Muharram-ul-Haram.
Interior Ministry issued directives following the death of Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsud in a drone attack on the eve of Islamic holy month of Muharram that intensified government’s problems regarding law and order situation in the country.
According to sources, security had been on high alert after Mehsud’s death in view of possible retaliation by the Taliban. Subsequently the ministry reviewed situation in a meeting held here at PM House headed by Interior Minister, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan. The high level meeting reviewed the new dynamics of internal security after the death of Taliban chief. The ministry issued directives to ensure security of Imam Bargahs and mosques during Muharram.
Reliable sources told this scribe, National Crisis Management Cell had informed the ministry about deteriorating law and order situation and expected terror attacks in Muharram, after that, Chaudhry Nisar asked the provinces to review security measures and recheck security arrangements. online
