Month-long tribute planned for Allama Iqbal
ISLAMABAD: To pay tribute to the ‘Poet of the East’, Allama Muhammad Iqbal on his birthday (November 9), the Nazriya Pakistan Council (NPC) has planned a month-long itinerary of events.
The celebrations of ‘Mah-e-Iqbal’ will be initiated with a mushaira being held today (Monday) at 6pm at the Aiwan-e-Quaid, Fatima Jinnah Park.
Renowned poets from Islamabad and other areas of the country have been invited to participate in the event, which will be presided over by eminent poet Prof Jalil Aali.
The other main event for ‘Mah-e-Iqbal’ will be a national seminar on “Fikr-e-Iqbal aur Milli Yakjehti” on November 7 at 4pm at the Aiwan-e-Quaid which will be presided over by Zahid Malik.
Former Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) prime minister Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan and Khalid Nazir Sufi, grandson of Allama Iqbal, will be special guests on the occasion.
Sufi is also the author of Iqbal, Daroon-i-Khana a biography of Iqbal’s family life.
Experts on Iqbal’s poetry and philosophy such as Dr Anis Ahmad, Prof Khurshid Ahmad, Tariq Mahmood Pirzada, Dr Nabeel Misri and Dr Ayub Sabir will read papers in the seminar.
The month-long programme also includes establishment of Quaid and Iqbal corners by Zahid Malik at the Islamabad Model College for Girls I9/1 on November 5.
The NPC has decided to establish the Iqbal and Quaid corners in educational institutions throughout the country. There will be a song competition among students to render Kalam-e-Iqbal at the Aiwan-e-Quaid on November 6.
A speech contest among students on ‘Iqbal aur Hum’ has also been arranged on November 13 at the Aiwan-e-Quaid. Scholars will also conduct a session on ‘Iqbal ki Ghazal Goi’ under the monthly literary programme Nuqta-e-Nazarat on November 20.
Another exclusive programme, a sitting with prominent artist Aslam Kamal, who holds unique honour of portraying Iqbal poetry in colours, has been scheduled. The topic will be ‘Iqbal Musawwir ki Nazar Main’.
The NPC has arranged four lectures on Iqbal’s works, personality and thoughts to be delivered by experts in various schools and colleges of Islamabad on November 2, 5, 11 and 25.
Another four lectures will be delivered at the Aiwan-e-Quaid on November 15, 19, 27 and 30 to benefit the students. app
