Nisar denies providing incorrect figures

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar during his National Assembly address on Wednesday, said he did not provide incorrect figures regarding casualties in various terrorism activities.

“The figures were provided by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and had been rechecked,” the minister told the assembly speaker.

Chaudhry Nisar’s statement came in response to the ongoing saga in the Senate where opposition members accused him of providing wrong figures and turning the matter into an ego issue by refusing to retract the statistics. In protest, opposition senators conducted the session outside the Parliament House today (Wednesday).

In his response, the Interior Minister said he was ready for accountability, adding that his conduct in the House was according to the norms of the Parliament. Nisar called for the formation of a committee consisting of opposition members to probe the conduct on that particular day.

During his address, Nisar clarified that the figures pertaining to deaths in drone strikes were not provided by him. “The figures for casualties in drone strikes were provided by the Defence Ministry,” he added.
