Nisar opposes debate over “Shaheed”
ISLAMABAD: Chaudry Nisar Ali Khan on Monday said that peace talks with the militants would be a sheer fallacy until the United States stops the drone strikes in Pakistan’s tribal region.
Speaking in the National Assembly, Nisar also denied causing rifts within Taliban ranks. He, however, said that the Pakistan Army was angry over the killing of General Sanaullah Khan Niazi but it didn’t let the loss affect peace process.
” We should not indulge in the debate about who is martyr,” he said while refereeing to a controversial statement given by the Jamaat-e-Islami chief Syed Munwar Hasan.
Had Pakistan Army been fighting a US war, Americans would not have leveled allegations,” Nisar added.
The minister said that the drone attack didn’t target an individual instead it was an attack on peace process. He claimed that Taliban were willing to come to the negotiating table but the drone strike just 13 hours before the peace talks shattered the whole process.
He said that the army had been supporting the peace process wholeheartedly for the last five years.
Nisar has repeatedly criticized Washington for sabotaging peace talks with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) since US drones killed Hakimullah Mehsud, the chief of 40-plus militant organizations operating under the umbrella of the TTP.
