Sindh empowers Rangers under PPO
KARACHI: The Sindh Home Department issued a notification on Sunday, authorising special powers to Rangers under the recently promulgated Tahaffuz-e-Pakistan Ordinance (TPO) or Protection of Pakistan Ordinance (PPO).
According to the ordinance, Rangers will be able to keep suspects in their captivity for a period of three months. The paramilitary force will also have the powers to conduct a raid anytime and anywhere and shoot a terrorist at sight. Earlier, Rangers were bound to hand over a suspect to the nearby police station within 24 hours. President Mamnoon Hussain had signed the ordinance about a month back.
The Protection of Pakistan Ordinance determines the minimum punishment given under Article 7 of the constitution as explained in Chapters VI, VII, VIII and IX of the Pakistan Penal Code, 1860, Pakistan Arms Act, or Foreigners Act 1946, etc, at 10 years. agencies
