2,810 industrial units closed in last 23 months
ISLAMABAD: A total of 2,810 industrial units have shut down in the country from January 2012 to-date, says a report of Industries Department of all provincial governments and Export Processing Zones Authority (EPZA). The report was placed in the National Assembly by the Ministry of Industry and Production. According to the report, 2,753 industrial units have been closed in provinces and 57 in EPZA in the last 23 months. As many as 1,198 industrial units have been closed in Sindh followed by 919 in Punjab, 478 in Khyber Pakhtunkhaw and 158 in Balochistan. Giving reasons of the closure, the report blamed financial crunch, outstanding dues, high cost of production, law and order situation, electricity and gas load shedding and partnership disputes. app
