‘Steps being taken for security in Muharram’

Staff Report

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch has said that the government is taking all possible steps to ensure law and order during Muharram.

Addressing a news conference at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on Sunday, Baloch said that he had put off all other official engagements and attended a meeting regarding Muharram. “We have strived hard to ensure every possible protection and security to processions and gatherings related to Muharram-ul-Haram,” the chief minister said. He said the provincial government was taking serious steps for establishing peace, but it was also the responsibility of religious scholars and masses to play their role in spreading peace and brotherhood. “Balochistan needs peace and the coalition government is playing its due role to bring peace in the province,” Baloch said.

Responding to a question, he said that this time the Ashura was coming on Friday and assured that Friday prayers would be held in all those mosques that fall on the processions’ routes. “A plan had been devised in this connection by religious scholars hailing from Sunni and Shia sects so that Friday prayers could be offered in all the mosques,” he added. To another query, the Balochistan CM said all possible steps had been taken to provide security to the people.
