Poets pay rich tributes to Allama Iqbal


PESHAWAR: Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the national poet of Pakistan, was paid rich tributes at a women mushaira for his unique wealth of literary work for nation-building, self-realisation and motivation.

The mushaira was held in connection with Iqbal Day at Garrison Club under the aegis of Pakistan Women Writers Forum on Saturday night.

Prominent poet Kishwar Naheed presided over the gathering while Home and Tribal Affairs Secretary Syed Akhtar Ali Shah and Islamic Centre Chairman Professor Dr Dost Muhammad Khan graced the occasion as guests of honour.

Masood Malik (Rawalpindi), Dr Najeeba Arif, Fareen Chaudhry, Jahan Ara Tabassum (Quetta), Sofia Ahmad, Dr Shahida Sardar (Pesahwar), Fara Asad, Dr Sara Basharat and Bushra Farrukh (Pehawar) also attended the event.

Kishwar Naheed, an ardent Iqbal follower, narrated famous poems of the national poet to the enthralled audience comprising intellectuals, policymakers, bureaucrats, executives of private sectors and a big segment of youth.

She talked to the audience about Iqbal’s vision and faith that inculcated a sense of motivation and self-realisation among Muslims of the subcontinent who then started a movement to get an independent country.

She said that Iqbal’s poetry did not only inspire the masses of subcontinent but it also influenced the entire Muslim Ummah and intellectuals and leaders of the world.

Other eminent poets also threw light on Iqbal’s vision and enlightened the audience about their knowledge and association besides narrating the famous Iqbal work, which included Masjid-e-Qurtaba, Khizr-e-Raah, Sultan Tipu Ki Wasyiat and Chand aur Tarre.

Dr Dost Muhammad and Syed Akhtar Ali Shah, while paying tributes to Iqbal, said he dreamed about an independent state for Muslims of the subcontinent and he had produced such a high level of poetry for Muslim Ummah which should be followed to materialise his dream of a prosperous Pakistan.

The poetic gathering was organised with the collaboration of KP Culture Department.

“It is very important to hold such gatherings not only to pay tributes to the glorious work of Dr Iqbal but also to teach his poetry to our next generation which can change the destiny of the nation in light of the great poet’s vision,” said Shahida Sardar. She said that “we had been making efforts to arrange such literary gatherings which are objective-oriented and constructive”.

Earlier, the ceremony started with the performance of Aiman Riaz who presented Iqbal’s poem. app
