Qaim reviews security arrangements

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah on Monday paid surprise visits to different parts of the city for beefing up security measures to maintain the sanctity of Muhrram.

He warned police officers that no security lapse would be tolerated at any cost. Special Assistant Waqar Mehdi, Coordinator Muhammad Siddique Abu Bhai and other officers of CM House were accompanied the Chief Minister during visit. Talking to people the CM said though he was regularly getting briefings from the police officers about law and order in the city, the purpose of this visit was to get first hand information from the stakeholders and physically inspect security arrangements.

He directed the police officers available on the spot to ensure foolproof security measures and not to take any risk in maintaining law and order during Muhrram.

The officers were asked to be vigilant and install walkthrough gates, metal and explosive detecting gadgets and to keep the parking faraway from imambargahs and mosques, mourning procession routes and other sensitive places.

The CM responding to a question said that a demand was continuously being made to the government for banning pillion ridding, especially on Muharram 9 and 10. He said that it was good omen that now citizen themselves are more aware and vigilant.

During the visit the CM went inside Shuhda-e-Qarbala imambargah, Anchooli and the imambargah near Nishter Park to inquire about security arrangements from Shia representatives and ulemas.

However, the trustee of Khair-ul-Amal Trust in Anchooli raised complaints about interrupted electric supply by KESC, at which CM directed the management of the KESC to honour their commitment about exempting imambargahs from loadshedding during night time.
