Muharram processions end in Pakistan amid tight security
KARACHI: Muharram processions taken out in many cities of the country to mark the anniversary of martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A) and his companions in Karbala have culminated.
The day was observed throughout the country to pay homage to Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A) and his companions.
The day was marked with due solemnity and sanctity to pay homage to martyrs of Karbala who laid down their lives to preserve the uprightness of Islam in Karbala.
Zuljinah and Taazia processions were taken out in all the cities and small towns.
Majalis of Sham-e-Ghariban are being held all across the country after the processions ended.

In Karachi‚ the main procession was taken out from Nishtar Park. Overall seven hundred big and small processions were taken out from various parts of the city.
In Peshawar‚ the main procession was taken out from Imambargah Qissa Khawani Bazar after Zohar prayers. It was terminated at the same point after passing through its traditional routes.
The main procession of Youm-e-Ashoor in Quetta was taken out from Imambargah Alamdar culminated at the same point.
The Federal and provincial governments made strict security arrangements to maintain law and order on the occasion. The law enforcement agencies were put on high alert throughout the country to deal with any eventuality.
Pillion riding was banned and cell phone service suspended in more than eighty cities. Close circuit cameras were installed at sensitive points to keep watch on Majalis and processions.
Despite the strict security arrangements, the day saw seven people killed in a sectarian clash in garrison town of Rawalpindi, where army and the Rangers were deployed to keep the situation under control. Several shops were also set on fire by protesters.
